Clark Sisters…WHO?!
A guy in a particular organization on campus claimed to love gospel music…but didn’t know who the Clark Sisters were. I felt like a slap was in order…but that wouldn’t have solved the problem.
The Clark Sisters to me are severely underrated in the field of music. The fact that they had to appear on Tv One’s “Unsung” reaffirms it. I was watching the episode like…”since when are they unsung?”, but apparently they are.
These 4/5 (one got kicked out in the middle lol) women changed an entire genre of music! Not many artists can say that about themselves. In the days when no instruments besides a tambourine, drum set, organ or piano were heard on a gospel recording, these women turned around and released “You Brought the Sunshine” a FULL studio recording sampling Stevie’s “Master Blaster”. People were dancing…literally DANCING to this song (in studio 54). They paved the way for contemporary gospel music as we know it today (besides Kirk Franklin…that’s another story).
Besides all of that “changing an entire genre of music”…THEY…CAN…SANG…all of them! I mean some serious sangin. It’s ridiculous how sick their vocal skills are. Twinkie and Karen alone could sing circles around any singer that just popped in your head right now.
I’m going to need a tribute to come through somewhere else besides “Celebration of Gospel” on BET. Anytime an artist is INCREDIBLY talented and changes an entire field of music, it should be celebrated. I don’t care what genre you like (country, rap, pop, classical) they should be respected…In the meantime…I’ll just sit and wait for a Grammy Tribute or SOMETHING?!
